If I'm a high school or college student, what types of positions can I apply for?
If you are in high school or college, you can join our team as an assistant or senior counselor, a crafts or sports assistant or a lifeguard. We discuss the different roles, responsibilities and requirements that come with each position during the interview process.
What's the difference between being a counselor as opposed to being a specialty assistant in an area like Arts & Crafts?
Group counselors, in teams of 2-3, work with the same group of campers throughout the summer. They travel with that group to all the different activities at camp and are responsible for guiding each of the campers within the group through each day... Helping them at activities, giving them high fives to celebrate great moments, comforting them through challenging moments. At camp, our counselors mean the most to our campers each summer!
Specialist assistants work at a particular activity at camp for the summer. They work with different camper groups, of various ages, that visit their specialty area throughout each camp day. Our Specialists and Specialist assistants are responsible for the AMAZINGLY FUN ACTIVITIES that our campers can't get enough of each summer.
What types of positions are available for teachers or other qualified adults?
If you are a teacher, parent or coach, you can apply for a position on our Senior Staff Team as a Division Leader, Specialty Area Lead (Arts & Crafts, Photography, Music, etc..), Waterfront Director or Athletic Director.
How are salaries determined?
Salaries are determined based on position and experience at Deer Mountain. We will discuss our salary structures for the different positions that you qualify for during the interview process.
What if I need a day off?
Each Deer Mountain summer lasts only 39 days. Attendance and timeliness are critical for us, as a team, to be able to successfully carry out the Deer Mountain summer experience. Familiar faces and continuity are important for our campers' emotional and physical well-being. Therefore, we expect every staff member to commit to the full 39 days of camp. Planned absences for college orientation or team sports commitments must be discussed prior to the camp season.
